To most of us, the name Estee Lauder is merely a skin-care product, but actually, this famous American businesswoman, born in July 1906, lived to become one of the wealthiest self-made women entrepreneurs in the world. Her life motto was: “If you push yourself beyond the furthest place you can go, you`ll be able to achieve your heart`s dream…”
Her company is based on a basic desire of every woman, to look and feel glamorous…But, dearest Estee, as much as I admire you, sorry, but there is no replenishing day cream or fragrance that can revamp the body and skin the way regular exercise does… It`s not vanity. Fitness is a catalyst for positive changes, affecting every aspect of your life. And it`s fun, fun, fun.
One of the brightest red letter days in June was our African-themed step class. (PS That`s one of the perks of being part of the challenge – Although the classes are open to all members, info about these fun nights where prizes are awarded during a fitness challenge is only posted on the Challenge group.)
We are almost halfway into our Winter Challenge, and it has been an amazing race so far. Of the initial 124 participants, 120 are still fighting fit. So, the prize money up for grabs is R 6000 in pure hard cash! Keep it up, girls, but, make sure to preserve lots of energy for our actual challenge starting on the 4th of September. Lots of prizes and surprises waiting…But, that one is not going to be this easy…, there`s a reason it`s going to be called “Pushing the limits”…
Speaking of challenges, our year challenge is also still going strong, and 16 members are still in this race! Thank you for your consistency and for being punctual with your monthly body assessments. I admire and value your dedication – you have mastered the art of setting long-term goals and are reaping the benefits of working patiently towards your dream.
Congratulations to our two winners of a free month each at the studio – Debbie Naudé and Annelize Prinsloo, and a very special welcome to our new members:

Again, just a reminder that if you are a new member , please add me as a contact person on your phone in order to be able to receive all broadcast messages.
According to the website famouspeople.com, persons born in July are fun-loving and are always cheerful. What else can be expected?! They must be special – they were after all born in the coldest month of the year! Happy birthday to you all:

As most of you know, my formal Booty Barre exam was conducted on Friday 23 June – a special thanks to members Gosia, Ania, Annelize, Dedré, Hannelie and Elsje who worked hard with me behind the scenes to practise for the big day. It was tough but it really went well. Within the next couple of weeks we`ll know if our studio will become the 11th certified Booty Barre studio in South Africa. Those of you who haven`t experienced a Booty Barre class…contact me, it`s really an awesome workout.
I`ve had quite a few enquiries regarding our Zumba kids class. This class has really evolved and grown the past few months and has become one of the highlights of my week. Remember, as with all the other classes, you can bring your girl for a free class as a try-out, as long as she is between 6 and 12 years old. Classes resume again on Wednesday 26th July.
I asked Annebie, who is a Discovery Vitality member, and a very dedicated and active member of our studio, to put something together just to help me remind everyone of all the benefits you can enjoy as a Vitality member in our studio. Here are a few advantages: Any Vitality member can earn a maximum of 900 points per week. By working out 3 to 4 times a week this target can easily be reached:
300 points ( a workout of 60 min with a heart rate of 70% of your max)
(a workout of 30 min with a heart rate of 80% of your max)
200 points (a workout of 30 minutes with a heart rate of 80% of your max)
100 points (a workout of 30 minutes with a heart rate between 60 -69% of your max)
All you need is a Fitbit or Garmin or any other device that you can sync with your phone or PC.
With most of the classes we teach at our studio the above can be reached, AND, did you know that you can earn yourself a free coffee at Mug and Bean every week???!
An annual full body assessment can be done at Clicks at no charge, plus, if you are healthy that assessment can earn you as many as 22 000 points!!!!
NB NB NB NB…Make a mental note of Monday 4 September, for during that week we are also officially starting with our Power Pump classes!!!!!! Remember, these classes will be open to all at no extra cost, but once again, if the classes are packed your spot will be secured if you are signed up for Summer Challenge 2017…
Those of you who are lucky enough to enjoy a well-deserved July holiday with your families, travel safe. All classes continue throughout the school holidays, except for the Booty Barre classes, which will start again on Monday 17th July.
My wish for you is that of poet John Geddes: “I pray for you this winter be gentle and kind – a season of rest from the wheel of the mind.”
Yours in fitness
